Wilderness First Aid

Wilderness First Aid

Course provides an introduction to wilderness expedition medicine, focusing on general concepts, basic anatomy, physiology/pathophysiology, assessment and treatment. If you lead multi-day trips, or work in a high risk outdoor environment (i.e. wildland fire), consider registering for our  wilderness first responder course.

The course meets on the Western New Mexico University Campus in Silver City, NM February 27-March 1, 2026 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily - with plenty of breaks throughout the day. Participants are required to attend the full training in order to receive certification.  NOTE: WFA can no longer  be used to partially fulfill a wilderness first responder re-certification. WILDERNESS FIRST RESPONDERS who need to recertify should register for the WFR/WEMT Recertification Course which takes place February 7 & 8 2026. If you have any questions please contact the Outdoor Program Director at whitemank@wnmu.edu.
