Agricultural activities are rewarding pursuits but may expose us to germs that can make us sick. Using a One Health approach that explores how human, animal, and environmental health are connected, this hands-on activity covers four high risk, low prevalence diseases and ways to prevent them. The Mystery Germs lesson is primarily designed for high school students and/or senior 4-Hers, with some materials are included for middle school students and junior 4-Hers. Included in this downloadable lesson plan are facilitator instructions, a presentation file focused on reducing risks from agricultural diseases, four hands-on puzzle activities, and a sample evaluation. Facilitators are encouraged to purchase the following materials separately to support lesson implementation: Folders, envelopes, banana grams, small box with 3-digit lock, laminator sheets, and colored pencils.
