The workshops will be in person and outdoors at public parks in Manchester CT. Location information for each workshop can be found below. There will be a guided walking tour to identify invasive plants, discuss management strategies, followed by a hands-on management demonstration and opportunity for practice. Participants will learn how to recognize invasive plants in the field, understand their ecological impacts, and observe management techniques. This is an easy, accessible walk with ample parking. Educational material and water will be provided.

Plants highlighted include Japanese knotweed, garlic mustard, mugwort, autumn olive, bittersweet, bush honeysuckle and others. For the hands-on component of the workshops, there will be a limited number of work gloves and loppers available. Please bring your own work gloves and loppers/pruners if available to you. Local public works staff or licensed pesticide applicators will assist with cut stump herbicide applications where appropriate.

These workshops provide a practical introduction to invasive plant identification and control, equipping participants with skills they can apply in their own landscapes and communities. We hope this series of workshops deepens participants’ understanding of invasive plant management in Connecticut.
