Healing the Divide: Communication Strategies for a Healthy Society

Martha McGovern, M.J. Ebenhack, George Banziger We face interpersonal challenges every day at home and in the community, and the words "polarization" and "gridlock" appear far too often in reports of complex social issues. We can learn strategies, though, to work through conflicts - large and small - toward resolutions and solutions. In this course, multiple presenters will offer diverse perspectives on effective communication (e.g., history, social psychology, theatre, religion, education, leadership, activism); will draw on the work of Roger Fisher, William Ury, and Gene Sharp; and will engage participants in activities to develop skill with specific strategies for productive communication. Cost: $30 Limit: 90 participants Day & Time: Wednesdays, 3-5 PM Dates: September 12, 19, 26 October 3, 10, 17, 24, 31 Location: 124 Thomas Hall
