PUCO Perceptual Test Manual

PUCO Perceptual Test Manual

Laukkanen’s Visual-Perceptual Test Manual (516-pages) was designed as an adjunct educational tool for his past Perceptual Problems course at Pacific University College of Optometry.  It has evolved over a couple of decades to teach students how best to diagnosis and implement a visual information processing battery. The manual includes a diversity of visual-perceptual tests but is skewed towards the visual-information processing (VIP) model. The manual includes: "Purpose", "Indications", and "Administration" sections for each test. The quick reference format has been useful as a quick “go-to” reference for novice clinicians and those needing to “brush-up” on each test’s protocol prior to patient contact. Most test descriptions end with a critique paragraph providing insight into the individual test’s strengths and weaknesses that have been documented in the literature. Beginning chapters discuss different qualitative aspects of assessment, designing a test battery, basic statistical concepts underlying testing. The manual concludes with many test forms and norms, symptom checklists, and a vision therapy report template. This manual has proven to be a valuable educational resource for a wide range of students, optometrists, and vision therapy assistants.
