John and Louise Semenza Scholarship Endowment for Social Work
Recipients of the John and Louise Semenza Scholarship shall be students admitted to the Masters of Social Work program. This endowment was established by Grace I. Semenza and Eleanore M. Gaylord in memory of Grace’s parents John and Louise Semenza.

Grace was born in 1913 as the third daughter of Reno pioneers John and Louise Semenza and was their fifth child to graduate from the University of Nevada, Reno in 1935. She received her Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Southern California and had an illustrious career in public service.

Eleanore, the youngest daughter of Reverend Fred E. and Mrs. Gertrude Morrison, was born in 1915 in Milbank, South Dakota. Eleanore graduated from Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri and moved to Santa Clara County, California later in her career to work in child welfare. From then until her retirement from Washington’s Department of Social Health Services in Olympia, Washington, Eleanore’s skills were used to help children whose lives were touched by foster care or adoption.

In 1978, Grace and Eleanore retired and moved to Santa Rosa, California. During the 1980s they both served on the Board of the Girl Scouts of the USA, Konocti Council.
