Purpose

To reinforce youth mental health and suicide prevention resources by identifying connections between campus and community services, and strengthening regional education, training and programming in alignment with the Michigan Suicide Prevention Plan.

Who Can Attend

Students, staff and faculty in Health, Human Services, Education and Social Sciences.

Forum Agenda Topics

  • Keynote: Michigan Suicide Prevention Plan: Transforming Youth Suicide Prevention in Michigan, Dr. Cynthia Ewell Foster, Co-Director University of Michigan, Youth Depression and Suicide Prevention Program; Lindsay DeCamp, State Suicide Prevention Coordinator, Michigan DHHS

  • Community Resources Overview: Local Efforts in Prevention and Care, Gryphon Place and Integrated Services of Kalamazoo

  • University Resources Overview: Existing Campus Services and Resources. WMU Health Promotion and Education, NAMI on Campus, NAMI SW Michigan and the WMU Unified Clinics: Resiliency Center for Families and Children.

  • Interdisciplinary Perspective: Training the Next Generation of Health and Human Services Professionals with WMU faculty

  • Campus-Community Panel: Moving Forward - Practical Connections in Education, Training and Prevention Programming

  • Facilitated group discussion: training future healthcare professionals


Cost

$25, current college students are free (select student at checkout).

  • Registration includes a boxed lunch with sandwich (selected at checkout), chips, a cookie and bottled water.
  • Free parking in main CHHS
