Water Supply Reports

The series Water Supply Report was published annually between 1957 and 1963 in cooperation with the USGS. Since 1963, the report has been published solely by the USGS. For that reason only numbers 1 through 7 are available here. All are concerned with groundwater conditions in Michigan.

This product is the compilation of following reports:

Item # WSR-01: Water Supply Report 01: Summary of Ground-water Conditions in Michigan 1956, P. R. Giroux, U. S. Geological Survey.

The present report summarizes ground-water conditions in selected urban areas and in other areas which are deemed representative of general ground-water conditions in the State. Hydrographs showing trends of ground-water level in selected wells are included which show fluctuations in response to climate, pumpage and other factors.

Item # WSR-02: Water Supply Report 02: Summary of Ground-water Conditions in Michigan 1957, P. R. Giroux,U. S. Geological Survey.

This report is based on periodic measurements of water levels made during 1957 in 288 observation wells. Continuous recording gages were in operation on 24 of the wells. The report summarizes water-level changes observed throughout the State, and analyzes these changes in selected areas.

Item # WSR-03: Water Supply Report 03: Summary of Ground-water Conditions in Michigan 1958, P. R. Giroux and Ted Thompson, U. S. Geological Survey.

This report is based on periodic measurements of water levels made during 1958 in 207 wells of which 33 were equipped with continuous recording gages. Measurements were discontinued at the end of 1957 in a number of observation wells finished in the shallow drift aquifers of the northern half of the Southern Peninsula, as the long period of record permitted selection of representative wells for retention on the basis of areal coverage, usefulness, and length of record. The report summarizes water-level changes observed throughout the State, and analyzes these changes in selected areas.

Item # WSR-04: Water Supply Report 04: Summary of Ground-water Conditions in Michigan 1959, P. R. Giroux and Ted Thompson, U. S. Geological Survey.

This report is based on periodic measurements of water levels made during 1959 in 188 wells of which 38 were equipped with continuous recording gages. Measurements of water level in some of the wells were discontinued in areas where intensive investigations had been in progress.

Item # WSR-05: Water Supply Report 05: Summary of Ground-water Conditions in Michigan 1960, P. R. Giroux and Ted Thompson, U. S. Geological Survey.

This report was based on periodic measurements of water levels made during 1960 in 209 wells, of which 57 were equipped with continuous recording gages. The report summarizes water-level changes observed throughout the State, and analyzes these changes in selected areas. During 1960, the program was expanded to include cooperation with the major users of ground water. The main purpose of the expansion was to observe and analyze the effects of pumping on water levels in important areas of ground-water withdrawals. During the year, 24 recording gages were installed in wells tapping several different aquifers in 14 municipalities.

Item # WSR-06: Water Supply Report 06: Summary of Ground-water Conditions in Michigan 1961, P. R. Giroux, U. S. Geological Survey.

This report was based on periodic measurements of water levels made during 1960 in 209 wells, of which 57 were equipped with continuous recording gages. The report summarizes water-level changes observed throughout the State, and analyzes these changes in selected areas. During 1960, the program was expanded to include cooperation with the major users of ground water listed above. The main purpose of the expansion was to observe and analyze the effects of pumping on water levels in important areas of ground-water withdrawals. During the year, 24 recording gages were installed in wells tapping several different aquifers in 14 municipalities.

Item # WSR-07: Water Supply Report 07: Summary of Ground-water Conditions in Michigan 1962, P. R. Giroux and G. C. Huffman, U. S. Geological Survey.

This report is based on periodic measurements of water levels made during 1962 in 235 wells, of which 77 were equipped with continuous recording gages. The report summarizes water-level changes observed throughout the State, and analyzes these changes in selected areas. During 1962, the cooperative program was continued with the addition of 11 ground-water recording stations. One objective of this cooperative program is to observe and analyze the effects of pumping on water levels in areas of heavy ground-water withdrawals. This information is used to guide water-management practices in these areas.
