"Get to the point!" Applying the (New) Foundations of Effective Presentations

For engineers & manufacturers (or employees working in the engineering or manufacturing industry) that want (or need) to improve their formal presentation skills using more contemporary approaches. Today’s audiences want presentations that are compelling, memorable, and brief! The program will cover how to produce brief presentations that are engaging and will also introduce the principles of storytelling to help attendees turn their presentations into more memorable moments.

 

Upon completion of the program, participants will be able to:

  • Apply audience analysis techniques to ensure your content and delivery method are maximized for the target audience
  • Apply foundational communication theory to help make decisions about what content to include, how to organize content, and how to utilize themes to connect content
  • Apply techniques to establish credibility and benefit from increased perceptions of trustworthiness and expertise in presentations
  • Improve the style of your presentation through strategic content organization 
  • Utilize basic storytelling and narrative techniques to increase audience attention and overall engagement
  • Develop a more dynamic style of delivery through increased awareness of contemporary speaking techniques and concepts
  • Be able to utilize simple training methods to help overcome common speaking barriers (e.g., nervousness, verbal fillers, etc.)
  • Apply delivery tips and best practices for use in (social) media interviews, podcasts, promotional videos, and other high-pressure speaking moments

3)            Copyright.  UConn will own the copyright in the Recordings.  

 

4)            No UConn Obligation.  UConn is not assuming any obligation to you under this Release.   You will not receive any compensation or benefits of any kind for the rights granted to UConn in this Release.   UConn need not make or use the Recordings or include you in any Recordings.  You will have no right to review or approve the Recordings.  UConn has no liability to you for any editing or alteration of the Recordings or for any distortion or other effects resulting from UConn’s editing, alteration or use of the Recordings.  

 

5)            General Terms.  You warrant you are eighteen (18) years old or more.  UConn may freely license, assign and otherwise transfer this Release and all rights that you have granted in this Release.  This Release shall be construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Connecticut.
