Curriculum Compacting

Differentiation is a buzz word in education. However, in a classroom of thirty students, what does it mean to differentiate? Curriculum compacting is a tool to add to the differentiation toolkit for all educators. Differentiating in terms of ability (including for twice-exceptional students), allows educators to consider what students already know and how some students can learn more quickly than their peers. There are many opportunities for enrichment, acceleration, or both for those students compacted out of aspects of the curriculum. Nicole Waicunas, SEM Outreach Coordinator, can provide an overview of curriculum compacting as well as resources, one-on-one consultation, and assistance in looking past the first step of pre-testing to discover how to engage and enrich students who have been curriculum compacted. Time: 60 minutes with 30 minutes for questions and discussion
