The 2026 UAB Jazz Summit will take place Friday, February 6th in the UAB Hulsey Center and the Alys Stephens Center. This is an opportunity for high school students and excellent 8th graders to immerse themselves in a collegiate jazz experience and learn from UAB jazz professors and professional jazz musicians.

Students will participate in masterclasses, clinics, and jam sessions, and this year will receive instruction and a performance from world-class bassist, Don Was, and his band. All participating students will receive a UAB Jazz T-shirt, access to concerts, workshops, clinics, and masterclasses and lunch and dinner the day of the Summit.

Eligibility: All students, grades 8-12 are eligible to participate in the Jazz Summit.

Registration Fee: $60, Non-refundable participation fee, which must be paid to reserve a spot.

  • 11:00 am Masterclasses on individual instruments with UAB Jazz Faculty
  • 12:00 pm Lunch
  • 1:00 pm UAB Jazz Student performance
  • 2:00 pm Jam Session (Beginning and Advanced)
  • 3:00 pm Clinic with Don Was
  • 5:00 pm Dinner/Jam Sessions
  • 7:00 pm Don Was and the Pan-Detroit Ensemble in Concert
