Aggie STEM Teacher Boot Camp 2019

Aggie STEM’s signature feature will have teachers working with experts facilitating a STEM PBL with secondary students. The one-week camps will have different focuses of the following: UAVs (drones), micro controllers, computer science/coding, and 3-D modeling.

Both weeks focus on making, building, and constructing activities. There will be limited time for lesson plan development, observation, and working with experts. Teachers will leave with many of the materials they work with to use in their classrooms.

Aggie STEM will be hosting engineering-design driven STEM Teacher Boot Camps where teachers have the opportunity to observe research-based effective practices and participate in workshops to develop their content and pedagogical skills and create hands-on classroom based activities.

One-Week Teacher Boot Camp 2019 Options

1) Construct your Elementary Tool Chest: STEM PBL Activities for the Elementary Classroom: June 23-29, 2019"

In this Boot Camp, teachers will learn the engineering design process for elementary school levels and how to develop curriculum with active hands-on STEM activities to engage elementary students. Various activities including two STEM commercial curricula will be featured. This camp will focus on classroom management along with immersive elementary learning experiences.

2) STEM PBL for Secondary: June 16-22, 2019

In this Boot Camp secondary teachers will reflect on STEM pedagogies and adapt STEM Project-based Learning (PBL)s for their own classroom. Teachers attending this session will build an Aquaponics system, use microcontrollers, and learn to integrate the 3D printer into their STEM instructional lessons. The format for this immersive learning experience is primarily group activities conducted at your own pace.

Both options will allow teachers to visit active research labs on the TAMU campus, have opportunities to interact with these cutting-edge researchers, and incorporate this knowledge and skills into their curriculum. All housing, transportation to and from learning activities, and breakfast and lunch are included in the cost. Some optional night activities will be available.

Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credits approved by Texas Education Agency will be provided.
