Cultural Explorations Trip, Japan Festival/African American Museum of Culture - in Houston - 4/14/18
The Cultural Explorations Program aims to provide opportunities for students to travel and experience the various cultures and communities across the state. This Cultural Explorations Trip will highlight the Museum of African American of Culture & the Japan Festival in Houston. First we will explore the art at the African American Museum of Culture. You will explore, interpret, and exhibit the material and intellectual culture of Africans and African Americans in Houston, the state of Texas, the southwest and the African Diaspora. Then we will head to the Japan Festival. This festival celebrates the rich cultural heritage of Japan with traditional and contemporary performances of Japanese music, dance and martial arts, Japanese/Japanese-inspired food, as well as demonstrations and displays of Ikebana flower arrangement, tea ceremony, origami, bonsai and more. This experience will expand students’ knowledge about Japanese culture and how it is woven into the fabric of Texas. Students will be required to complete a risk wavier prior to the trip, and will be required to pay a small registration fee ($20 to cover some trip expenses) to reserve their seat. The registration fee covers: transportation cost to and from trip location on a coach bus, breakfast, snacks, and festival entrance. The trip registration fee ($20) may be paid in cash at the Department of Multicultural Services, Suite 2200 on the second floor of the MSC (ask for Kim Heslip) or electrically here on Marketplace. (a small convenience fee of $1 is added to all electronic payment options). All TAMU students are welcomed to attend this trip. A refund, excluding the $1 processing fee, can be requested no later than 96 hours before the trip. We will be leaving from the Southside Water Tower on Saturday April 14th at 9am, and will return from the trip between 6pm-7pm.
