zJanuary 2018 Machinery Vibration & Rotordynamics Short Course

January 2018 Machinery Vibration & Rotordynamics Short Course held January 22-26, 2018 in Houston, Texas at the Double Tree by Hilton IAH Airport hotel 15747 John F Kennedy Blvd, Houston, TX. The course will begin with a practical approach to understanding basic vibration theory and using it to solve mechanical vibration problems. Rotordynamics terminology in common use will be defined and explained, including critical speeds, the critical speed inversion, unbalance response, and rotordynamic instability. The influence of rotordynamics on different types of turbomachinery design will be illustrated. Case studies of rotordynamic instability and critical speed problems will be presented. The occurrence and importance of backward whirl will be explained. Causes of bearing problems and failures will be described. Several new seals and bearing dampers with significant damping and stabilizing properties will be described. The following topics in rotordynamics will be covered: force coefficients for bearings, seals, impellers, turbine wheels, and squeeze film dampers; troubleshooting oil film bearings, the finite element and transfer matrix methods for rotordynamic analysis, building realistic rotordynamic computer models, making computer models agree with measurements. **Early discounted price of $2700.00 is available through January 5, 2018 after which the price will be $3000.00.

CANCELLATION POLICY Written refund requests (by email, fax, or postal mail) must be received in the Turbomachinery Laboratory (TL) Office and will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis for personal hardships (death, injury, or illness of the attendee or an immediate family member). Refunds may also be extended for acts of nature and national emergencies. The TL does not refund for business decisions by the attendee’s employer such as: job reassignment, plant emergencies, etc. However, we encourage substituting another employee so the attendees’ company receives the benefit of training. In the event of a “no-show” cancellation, short-course materials will be forwarded to the absent attendee. The State of Texas does not allow the TL to extend credit to individuals or companies. Therefore, we cannot apply registration fees for a missed course to another subsequent course. The TL reserves the right to cancel any short course and return all fees in the event of insufficient registration. We reserve the right to cancel due to unforeseen circumstances. The TL will not be responsible for any losses incurred by the registrants, including but not limited to airline cancellation charges or hotel deposits.
