Description
This course is for students who are interested in risk management, insurance planning, and law as professional careers. We will learn to apply the principles of risk management to evaluate the insurance needs of individuals, families, and small businesses and evaluate the roles of various insurance products in achieving their financial goals and providing financial security. We will also learn about how to use estate planning tools to provide for the next generation.

Topics include risk management, how insurance works, legal aspects of insurance, life and disability insurance, annuities, health and long term care insurance, property and liability insurance, and the estate planning process and legal documents.

Objectives


As a result of your participation in this course, you will be able to:

- Describe the basic concepts of risk as they relate to insurance planning, the regulatory and market environment of the insurance industry, and the legal principles related to insurance.

- Recognize the critical planning elements related to life, disability, health, and long-term care insurance and annuity products.

- Identify appropriate insurance coverages for property, automobile, liability, and business insurance products.

- Describe the estate planning process, the essential documents, the probate process, and other property ownership and transfer considerations.
