A Place in the Country Guidebook

In her own words, from a long-forgotten manuscript, Matilda Wilson takes the reader on a guided tour of Meadow Brook Hall in this first Oakland University Press publication. Oakland University's Meadow Brook Hall is often described as an American castle. Designed by the Detroit architectural firm of Smith, Hinchman & Grylls, this 100-room, Tudor-revival mansion was built between 1926 and 1929 at a cost of $4 million. By all accounts, the late Matilda Wilson was the motivating force behind the design, construction and decoration of the home in which she lived for 38 years.
