Pegasus Charm

This lovely sterling silver charm represents The Colt Pegasus, sculpted by Avard Fairbanks. It was first exhibited in Detroit, Michigan at the annual North American Flower Show in 1946. The sculpture was the last in a series of methodical figures he created. The study came to the attention of Matilda Dodge Wilson who commissioned Fairbanks to create a copy that would be cast in bronze. It was erected as the central figure in a fountain pool in the formal evergreen garden on the grounds of Meadow Brook Hall. Today, the Pegasus Fountain remains there where it lends its charm and beauty as an example of fine sculpture.
