Girls Who Weld! July 13-17, 8:30 am-12:30 pm (High School)

According to the American Welding Society, more than 300,000 welding positions are expected to open nationwide by 2028—yet women currently make up only about 5% of the workforce. This camp is designed to help change that. Led by female welder, artist, and CMU Tech instructor Giovanna Martinez, participants will learn directly from a skilled professional who brings both technical expertise and creative vision to the craft. Middle and high school girls will gain hands-on experience in welding processes, along with essential safety
practices and basic fabrication techniques. Whether students are curious about advanced manufacturing, engineering, or artistic metalwork, this camp offers an empowering, real-world introduction to a high-demand and rewarding career—showing what’s possible when skill, creativity, and confidence come together. (For your safety, please come prepared in jeans, a 100% cotton shirt, boots or canvas shoes, a hair tie if you have long hair, and a fillable water bottle.)
