Dig In! A Soil Science Adventure: June 8-12, 8:30 am-12:30 pm

Welcome to soil camp, where dirt becomes an adventure! In this hands-on, curiosity-filled experience, students explore what’s happening beneath their feet and uncover the secrets of soil. Campers investigate soil layers (horizons), test textures, and build soil models like real scientists. They also discover the living world within soil—from microbes to earthworms—and learn how these organisms support healthy plants and
ecosystems. Students explore nutrients, soil’s role in food production, and how to care for this vital resource through interactive activities, experiments, and outdoor exploration. Campers will create edible “soil” desserts and finish with a visit to CSU Extension on Orchard Mesa to explore a real soil pit. By the end, students won’t just see soil—they’ll understand and appreciate it in a whole new way. Parents must provide transportation.
