Introduction to Beekeeping, March 3, 10, 24, 31 (no class March 17), 6-8pm, BB 130 This class explores the basics of keeping honeybees. We will cover the interactions of bees & humans historically, bee culture, the current state of honeybees, and their biology. Bee biology includes bee species, the interaction of workers, drones & the queen, and hive health. We will examine various kinds of beekeeping equipment, and beekeeping cost. Final class meets in a working apiary with an emphasis towards hands-on contact. Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) is required for final class.

Introduction to Beekeeping, March 5, 12, 26, April 2 (no class March 19), 6-8pm, BB 130 This class explores the basics of keeping honeybees. Beekeeping: Level One, April 14, 21, May 5, 19 (no class April 28 or May 12), 6-8pm, BB 130 This class builds upon “Intro to Beekeeping” and introduces the student to beekeeping as a hobby or profession. These classes focus on the interaction of the beekeeper and the honeybee colony as it progresses through the first half of bee season. Topics covered include location, types of equipment, spring build up, swarm management, pests & diseases. Three of four classes will meet in a working apiary with an emphasis towards hands-on contact. Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) is required.
