Mental Health First Aid

Mental Health First Aid
The Counseling & Testing Center is offering Mental Health First Aid in Higher Education for Georgia State University faculty and staff. This highly rated course is scheduled one time only during fall semester 2018 for a limited number of participants.

Mental Health First Aid in Higher Education is a Certification Program that will benefit anyone who wants to understand more about the mental health concerns of our students and who wants to help support the GSU community. Similar to 'First Aid' and CPR, 'Mental Health First Aid' teaches individuals how to help those experiencing mental health challenges or crises.

MHFA training:

- Teaches specific steps to assist someone who is experiencing a mental health crisis.
- Participants learn how to help students gain access to professional supports and to suggest self-help
- Improves early identification of mental health problems, which can lessen the severity of these
disorders; reduce the risk of suicide; and lessen to number of crises experienced by our students
   and community.
- Identified on SAMHSA's National Registry of Evidence-Based Programs and Practices,
course participants receive certification in Mental Health First Aid USA.
