Mental Health First Aid

Mental Health First Aid
The Counseling & Testing Center announces the first-ever offering of Mental Health First Aid in Higher Education for Georgia State University faculty and staff.

Mental Health First Aid in Higher Education is a Certification Program that will benefit anyone who wants to understand more about the mental health concerns of our students and who wants to help support the GSU community. Similar to 'First Aid' and CPR, 'Mental Health First Aid' teaches individuals how to help those experiencing mental health challenges or crises.

MHFA training:

- Teaches specific steps to assist someone who is experiencing a mental health crisis.
- Gives participants information to help students find needed professional supports as
well as suggest self-help strategies and other support services.
- Can improve early identification of mental health problems, and early detection may
lessen the severity of these disorders and reduce the risk of suicide and the number of
crises experienced by our students and community.
- Identified on SAMHSA's National Registry of Evidence-Based Programs and Practices,
the training helps the public better identify, understand and respond to signs of
mental illnesses. For more information on Mental Health First Aid, visit
   www.mentalhealthfirstaid.org.
