National Nutrition Month
In recognition of National Nutrition Month 2026®, this event will address one of the most pressing challenges in nutrition today: the spread of mis- and disinformation. False or misleading nutrition information can undermine public health, influence policy, and erode trust in science. This session brings together experts from advocacy, policy, journalism, and media to explore how misinformation spreads, how to identify it, and strategies for responding effectively at individual, organizational, and policy levels.
The program will include a dynamic panel session featuring 4–5 experts representing advocacy, policy and practice, public relations and industry, journalism/media and academia. Each panelist will share insights. A Q&A will provide an opportunity for deeper engagement and practical takeaways. The event will conclude with a networking luncheon.
Why Attend?
Establish a shared understanding of misinformation and disinformation in nutrition by defining key concepts and their implications for public health.
Equip participants to identify inaccurate nutrition information by recognizing common sources, patterns, and red flags.
Analyze the impact of misinformation and disinformation on individual behaviors, policy decisions, and professional practice.
Provide practical strategies for responding effectively through immediate corrective communication, policy-level interventions, and workforce training.
Promote collaboration across sectors to strengthen evidence-based nutrition communication.
This event is designed for public health professionals, policymakers, researchers, dietitians, students, media professionals, and community leaders who are engaged in nutrition, food policy, and health communication. By bringing together diverse stakeholders, the program will emphasize the importance of collaboration in addressing misinformation and promoting accurate, evidence-based nutrition information to support a healthier, more informed society.
