This optional, non-credit program will assist you in your preparations for your graduate experience with the Schar School and beyond.
For new students, this planning seminar is an opportunity to connect to academic and career resources within the Schar School while identifying personal strengths. Participants will develop a plan for success that aligns with their time at Mason. All are welcome, but full-time students and students who have recently completed undergraduate study are strongly encouraged to register.
The seminar will take place on four consecutive Thursdays:

Students will meet their fellow Schar School classmates, review objectives, discuss expectations for participation in the seminar, and take the Clifton StrengthsFinder Assessment.
Session II: September 3 from 2:00 – 4:00 PM
Students will process the results of the StrengthsFinder Assessment in relation to group dynamics and leadership. Additionally, students will begin to develop an executable plan for their Schar School experience utilizing what they have learned.
Session III: September 10 from 2:00 – 4:00 PM
In week three, students will focus on applying their Strengths to various life skills important to graduate school success. Topics covered will include short-term goal setting, money management, work-life-school balance and developing resiliency.
Session IV: September 17 from 2:00 – 4:00 PM
The seminar concludes with an introduction to skills necessary for future academic and professional success. Students will apply their strengths to networking and communication skills key to achieving their goals.
