David Galatzan Memorial Scholarship

It is with heavy hearts that the Communication and Performing Arts Division at Valle Verde announces the unexpected passing of Mr. David Galatzan. On June 28, 2022, David passed away in his home, leaving friends, family, and colleagues with a common void.

Mr. Galatzan is remembered as always having his Hunny Bun snack while working with students. He had a lot of heart for his program and treated everyone as his own family. He was always caring and mentored his students, staff, and faculty.

David grew up in El Paso and graduated from Coronado High School (1970) and the University of Texas at El Paso (1980). He worked in the advertising field at The Popular Department Store, El Paso Natural Gas Company, and as an entrepreneur. In 1988, he joined EPCC as a lab assistant, became adjunct faculty in 1992, and full-time in 2006. He also created the Advertising Graphics & Design Program working under three different divisions at the Valle Verde campus. He climbed the academic ladder up to tenured faculty, positively influencing the lives of so many students. He not only shared his professional experience with his scholars to meet the community's needs and serve his students but is warmly remembered for having positive influences in their personal lives. He will be greatly missed by the administration, faculty, staff, and most importantly, students.

A memorial service is scheduled for 6:00 pm on August 3, 2022, at Sunset Funeral Home West (480 Resler Dr, El Paso, TX 79912).
