Roger & Ursula White Memorial

Roger and Ursula White’s lifetime journey and future legacy began in 1956. Roger White was a soldier for the United States Army stationed in Germany, where he met his future bride, Ursula. They married and began an adventurous military life, later becoming educators. After the White’s marriage, they traveled to many different military stations, and several tours of duty brought them to Fort Bliss in El Paso. Like many other military families, the Whites grew so found of the desert southwest, they chose the city as their permanent home when Roger retired from the Army in 1966. Roger had a longtime love of history and of the military, and after retirement from life as a soldier, he decided to pursue higher education and a History degree. Roger White’s passion for service and education ultimately led him to serve his country again, as the official historian for the Army Air Defense Artillery School at Fort Bliss, Texas.

Ursula White also had a life-long love of learning, and pursued a degree in Psychology from the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). Ursula helped students for a number of years as a counselor at UTEP, taught Psychology as a part-time instructor at El Paso Community College (EPCC), and later became a full-time Psychology faculty member at EPCC. She retired from the College in August, 2002, after working tirelessly with students and inspiring their passion for learning.

During Roger’s and Ursula’s years of commitment to their adopted desert community, the Whites raised their two sons to pursue higher education and to achieve their dreams. Their two sons are their living legacy--Dr. Alexander White currently is an Associate Professor of Mathematics at Texas State University, and Padraic White is a professional accountant.

The Whites’ legacy continues through their sons’ work and spirit of giving, and through the Roger and Ursula White Scholarship fund at the EPCC Foundation. Alexander and Padraic wish to continue to honor the memory of their parents through the scholarship fund so that their parent’s work will continue in perpetuity. The fund will ensure that students studying History or Psychology—Roger’s and Ursula’s academic fields- can pursue higher education at EPCC.
