Deas Campbell died, as she lived, on her own terms, leaving behind many loving friends, who will forever have Deas stories safely ensconced in their hearts.
Deas was a lifelong reference librarian, serving the Papago Indian Reservation, Austin Community College's Rio Grande Campus, and El Paso Community College's Transmountain Campus until her death.
She loved folk art, the Southwest, Mexico and South America, mystery novels, horticulture, and obscure and offbeat facts. She traveled extensively and was curious about, and respectful of, other cultures and traditions. Her wit and dry humor were legendary among her friends and colleagues.
She could cut to the heart of an issue in very short order. Deas had a healthy disdain for phonies, the self-inflated, and those who were indifferent or cruel to others in lesser circumstances or of limited means. She was a lifelong liberal, and a passionate defender of the right of everyone to be who they are. Deas grew up in Monroe, Louisiana. Deas leaves many cherished relationships with friends and colleagues, who will always love her. She was a great lady.
