Periodontics

The ISA or Initial Scaling Appointment is performed following an OHS appointment for new patients requiring removal of tooth deposits. During the ISA appointment(s), a student will implement the care plan. If the patient is deemed an SRP (Scaling and Root PLanning) or NSPT (Non-surgical Periodontal Therapy), the patient will have scaling procedures completed and other medicaments may be administered. Polishing will be performed at the re-evaluation appointment. This is an implementation appointment. The Re-Eval or Re-Evaluation of Non-Surgical Periodontal Therapy is performed 3 to 6 weeks (no more than 21 days) following completion of an ISA appointment(s).

During the Re-Evaluation, a student will complete periodontal charting, re-scale the entire mouth to remove new soft and hard deposits and any residual calculus, and polish if recommended. At this appointment, assessment and performance of additional hygiene services is done. This is an evaluation appointment.
