GETTING YOUR BOOK TO THE FINISH LINE

Wednesdays, February 10, March 10, April 7, and May 5, 2027

7:00 pm to 9:00 pm

in person at OSU-Tulsa

and one 45-minute Zoom session scheduled individually

So, you’ve finished (or nearly finished) a full prose manuscript that features original characters and tells a compelling story…what do you do now?! “Getting Your Book to the Finish Line” is a workshop designed for authors who have completed (or are about to complete) a manuscript draft that is ready to be shared with others. Receiving thoughtful feedback on your characters, plot, dialogue, prose style, narrative structure, themes, and more is a critical step in the process of revising your novel, short story collection, or memoir so you can feel great about your creative investment and get it in shape to publish.

In this course, you’ll receive guidance on how to professionally edit and polish your manuscript with the aim of then submitting it to contests, agents, and/or publisher’s open calls. By providing answers to questions like What do your readers find most engaging about this work? and What about the current draft is potentially confusing or underdeveloped?, this workshop will help you build a foundational understanding of how to refine the emotionality and intrigue you’ve already established in your draft.

This workshop includes:

  • Four 2-hour group meetings/workshops (the first Wednesday of February, March, April and May) where each author will share and receive feedback on a manuscript excerpt of 75 pages
  • Full manuscript review/one-on-one Zoom session (~45 mins) with Cassidy McCants (scheduled at the time of your choosing in late May).

Featuring Instructor:  Cassidy McCants

Cassidy McCants is a writer and editor from Tulsa, Oklahoma, whose first collection of short stories, Notes on Drifting, is forthcoming from Whiskey Tit (fall 2026). Cassidy received her B.A. in creative writing from University of Arkansas and her M.F.A. in fiction writing at Vermont College of Fine Arts. She’s the former managing editor of Nimrod Journal and is creator/editor of Apple in the Dark.
