Tuesdays and Thursdays: March 4, 6, 11, 13, 18, 20, 25, and 27
6:00pm to 8:00pm
in person at OSU-Tulsa
This course explores how genre films—often seen as pure entertainment—serve as powerful tools for social commentary.
Through a deep dive into films like
Night of the Living Dead, Parasite, They Live,
and
Get Out
, we will
examine how filmmakers use horror, sci-fi, and thriller genres to reflect and critique societal issues such as race, class, capitalism, and fear.
By the end of the course,
students will understand how to incorporate social commentary into their own screenplays
, blending message with genre conventions.
This is a course aimed at intermediate writing students who have a basic grasp of screenplay formatting. Access to screenwriting software is required.
