Setting Music to Film

Setting Music to Film

Wednesdays: October 2, 9, 16, 23, 30, and November 6
from 7pm-9pm
in person at OSU-Tulsa

Led by a working film composer, "Setting Music to Film" provides aspiring filmmakers and film enthusiasts a detailed demonstration of the often overlooked, but important process of working with composers to successfully score a film.

Through audio and video examples of popular scores and films, students will be exposed to the technical and artistic considerations inherent to successfully setting music to film.
  • This is a conversational workshop, where students will be encouraged to provide insight to the examples presented and other common scoring scenarios.
  • Students will also bring their own examples of exemplary scoring and they'll deconstruct why they resonate.
  • Also featured is a mock spotting session, where an unfinished scene will be presented with dialogue but without music. Students will decide which moments require music and what that music should be.
Students will leave better equipped to score their own films by working effectively with composers.

Featuring Instructor: Paul Cristo
Paul Cristo’s music career began when he attended the renowned Berklee College of Music.

There he studied the composition of music in a multitude of styles ranging from orchestral, chamber, and jazz, cramming into his head as much music (and Dunkin’) that would fit.

He’s since spent more than two decades composing music for a wide range of projects spanning film and television, including MGM's "Species: The Awakening," the SyFy Channel's "Warehouse 13," Showtime’s "The Affair," USA’s "Burn Notice," and PBS’s "Mosaic Oklahoma."

His music is prolific in scope and sound, ranging from purely orchestral to rich synth-scapes and every hybrid there-between.

Paul has also developed a relationship with the Tulsa Ballet with his inaugural ballet "Festa."
