Whether at a local pub, an upscale restaurant, or one’s home, the bar is an essential part of dining, entertaining and hospitality. This course takes an in-depth look at the bar and the many spirits and concoctions that are poured and mixed. Beginning with an overview of spirits produced around the world to the methodology of making cocktails and pricing them accordingly, you’ll leave this class with an understanding of crafting proper drinks and executing a professional and profitable bar. (Must be 21.)

Course Objectives:
- Understand the major cocktail families and how classic and standard cocktails fit into their categories
- Knowledge of basic cocktailian bartending vernacular
- Technique and tools of the craft
- The most important and influential cocktails
- Creating original cocktails, cocktail ideology, and how to taste
- Basic understanding of alcohol categories, history, production, and flavor profiles
- Basic understanding of non-alcoholic ingredients and how to use them
- Making syrups, infusions, tinctures, etc.
- Presentation, garnishes, and glassware
- Pricing cocktails, maintaining cost, developing a par system and developing a menu
- Become familiar with common wine terminology
