Backcountry Essentials - Deeper Dive into the Public Backcountry Avalanche Bulletin and the Weather Forecast

A review on how to read and utilize all of the tiers of information associated with the Public Backcountry Avalanche Bulletin for safe backcountry travel. We will also review digital weather resources and how to tie the bulletin together with local weather forecasts to make the most informed decisions for your backcountry tours.

The series:

A workshop series for WSU backcountry skiers and riders looking to gain fundamental avalanche awareness and applied field skills for wintertime backcountry travel.

Each workshop will focus on a set of skills surrounding a specific topic related to wintertime backcountry travel. This series will cover what to pack for a backcountry tour, partner rescue basics, weather, snowpack, digital mapping tools, backcountry travel technique, and assessing human factors to assemble your tour group. This series will culminate in an optional guided mentorship day tour in the Ogden backcountry to apply these workshop tools to the field.
