Jazz Labs Dayton offers everyone who participates practical training on instruments and theoretical training in music. Students are given opportunities to learn teamwork, leadership, self-expression, self-discovery and other skills in an atmosphere of caring and sharing. They gain experience in stage performance of music from traditional jazz to contemporary sounds and are encouraged to write and arrange for their ensembles.
Each year the camp features a Guest Artist, giving these young musicians access to internationally renowned figures in the jazz world.
Melia, an assistant professor of Music and director of Jazz Studies at Central State University, will serve as a member of the camp's faculty.
