Spanish Immersion Retreat 2025: Teachers Registration
Johnson County Community College Spanish Immersion Retreat 2025 for Teachers
Join us
April 11-13, 2025,
at the
Tall Oaks Conference Center
in Linwood, KS.
The retreat begins on Friday, April 11th, with check-in from 4:00 to 5:00, runs all day Saturday, and ends Sunday at noon.
Thanks to the support of the JCCC Faculty Development Office and enlisted generous donors, the registration fee is only $80. This covers two nights’ lodging (double occupancy), five meals, and all activities. Space is limited to 25 participants.
The objective is to duplicate the experience of spending the weekend in a Spanish-speaking country engaging in pedagogical activities completely in Spanish. Colombia is the theme for the 2025 retreat.

Participants are required to stay the whole time and to speak only Spanish.
We encourage new participants to register between now and December 31. Registration for those that joined us in 2024 will open January 1st. We love repeat participants and at the same time would like to give newcomers a chance to sign up. If you know of any Spanish instructors who are willing to participate and stay the weekend speaking only Spanish, please encourage them to register.
Retreat Activities:
* Immerse yourself in Spanish throughout the retreat.
* Maintain or improve your fluency with activities at Advanced and Superior ACTFL proficiency levels.
* Meet other Spanish instructors and share ideas on teaching and life in general during informal conversations.
* Watch and discuss a Hispanic movie and/or short videos.
* Listen to Hispanic music and podcasts while enjoying the natural beauty of rustic surroundings.
* Sing songs in Spanish and play traditional Hispanic games.
* It is possible that non-credit hour learning experience points could be issued by the sponsoring school, contingent on district approval and consistency with the stated goals in the individual teacher's professional development plan.
