Epicenter is a free, one-day conference hosted by JCCC’s Center for Sustainability and is on Friday, April 26th, 2024. This year’s theme is environmental justice within the Greater KC area. Environmental justice promotes the fair treatment of all people regarding environmental policies and practices and addresses the adverse health consequences of government, industrial, and/or commercial operations. With examples such as Flint, MI, or the Dakota Access Pipeline, environmental justice aims to dismantle inequitable systems which disproportionally affect communities of color and low-income communities--who may live, work, and play around polluted air, water, and soil.

During Epicenter, participants will learn more about environmental justice, hear from practitioners who are working to advance these efforts locally, and discover sustainable career paths relating to the environment, health, and equity. This event is open to JCCC students, faculty, and staff, as well as high school juniors and seniors.

Registration is required, with a deadline of April 19th, 2024.
